THE BEST WAY

TO LOSE WEIGHT

Gastric banding:

Is the latest purely restrictive procedures and is one of the first bariatric procedures which could be done laparoscopically.

Gastric Banding

Gastric band around the proximal part of the stomach

Gastric banding is the least invasive procedures. It consists of formation of a small gastric pouch created by insertion of a silicon band high on the stomach. The stomach is not cut or crushed. A system connected to a subcutaneous port, which is used for the percutaneous introduction or removal of fluid to adjust the caliber of the band without surgery. Since its clinical initiation, hundred of thousands of morbidly obese patients in the world were treated by laparoscopic gastric banding. Gastric banding is probably the most commonly performed bariatric operation in con¬tinental Europe and in Australia.

How does gastric band aid in loosing weight?

As mentioned above it’s a restrictive surgery meaning it reduces the amount of food consumed at one time and makes you feel full earlier and longer. Therefore you eat less and lose weight.

What makes gastric band special?

  1. Adjustability of the band, this procedure is part of the follow up and is done on an outpatient basis without the need of anesthesia .depending on your progress in weight loss your doctor and or his team will decide when there's a need to adjust.

Adjusting is done at the doctor office or using special X-ray, by injecting a fluid into the band through the port.
  2. Reversibility: by band removal stomach returns to normal.
  3. Laparoscopic placement. Stomach is not cut, stapled and reshaped.
  4. Short hospital stays and quick recovery.
  5. Unlike gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding does not interfere with food absorption. For this reason, vitamin deficiencies are rare after gastric banding.
Remember the band is not a magical tool only your commitment to living a healthy lifestyle can ensure the success of the treatment.
